Still going...

Boy was I tired yesterday! Partly from the workout the day before, since I haven't worked out in about 6 weeks, but also from a very hectic, physically taxing day at work. Today I felt okay to exercise again.

I did the same Leslie Sansone 2-mile Walk Strong workout with light weights. Next time I'm going to go to 5 pound weights, since these little weights aren't doing much for me.

Two down! =0)

a month and a half later...

I've let fatigue and illness get in the way of exercise! Actually, those are pretty good reasons not to exercise. (That statement may be seen as heresy by those zippy little folks with endless energy, but we can't always understand what it is to be in someone else's shoes, can we?) =0) Anyway, onward>>>

I'm just recuperating from a bad chest cold and still have some congestion, but I stepped on the scales the other day and it scared me a little, so I thought I would try to begin again with exercise and watching what I eat. I need more veggies and fruits and not so much bread, cake, CAPPUCINOS (I think that's the real culprit), etc.

Today I worked out with Leslie Sansone's Walking Away the Pounds-Walking Strong video. This is a two-mile walk interspersed with light weight workouts. There is a lot of variety in the walking steps and the upper body gets a workout with the weights and lots of gentle squats and lunges help the lower body further.

Just for the record I weigh 165 today. It's goin' down!! A couple of years ago I was down to 141 where I plateaued, so I want to at least reach that as a goal.

YOU CAN DO IT, LISA!!!

Friday...

Finally back at it! Bob and I spent a couple of hours yesterday and Wednesday cleaning out an old mobile home, doing lots of lifting, stooping and carrying back and forth, so I didn't think a workout would be a good idea.

Today I did the Taebo Amped Live in L.A. workout-43 min.

Saturday...

Tae Bo-Core Express 31 min.

Bob and Missy went for a bike ride and I stayed home to do Tae Bo. My bike tire exploded a few days ago, but I'm really liking tae bo because it uses up more calories and uses your whole body, which walking and biking don't do. Gearing up for winter exercise...but I hope winter waits a while!

Here's a sample Tae Bo workout. Silly, yes, but better than being a couch potato! =0)

Wednesday...

Tae Bo-Jump Start Cardio 41 min.

Maybe I worked off that pizza I had for supper! =0)

Monday...

Did a new Tae Bo workout called "Power". 46 min.

This is one I've had for a while, but I always get frustrated because of the choreography of some of the moves. I'm trying so hard to figure out which way to go and which leg does what that I spend lots of time bumbling around instead of exercising. I guess as long as I keep moving I'm getting SOMETHING out of it! Eventually I'll get it figured out if I can stand it in the meantime. Wish he'd film these with his BACK to the camera so we'd all be using the same leg instead of seeing a mirror image! Grrr!

TAE BO!

Started to take my customary 2 mile walk and realized that the sun was only an inch above the trees (well, not AC-tually), so I thought to myself, "Self. I don't really want to be walking home in the dusk when all the skunks come out to play, do I?" And myself said, "No."

SO, after walking the .1 mile from my driveway to the walking trail I turned around and went home where I popped in my "Tae Bo Amped" DVD and did the 31 minute Core Express workout.

This is my first tae bo workout of the season. I usually do this for my winter exercise because it's too darn cold outside. It is a lot more of a workout than walking, so I'll be feeling it in the morning. Maybe even sooner.

Hi-YAAAH, y'all...

Tuesday...

I did a two mile walk. Bob biked 4 miles, I think.

I also did E-cises, ab crunches (50), airplanes (20).

Monday, August 24, 2009

Monday...

Bob and I did a 5 mile bike ride.

I know that doesn't sound like much to those of you who are REAL bike riders (like Laura A's family!), but for me it's a change of pace from walking and my hubby likes to have some company. Believe me, we're not wearing tight biking shorts and riding sleek machines. Oh no! Just a couple of older folks on really marginal 10-speeds. And I only use one of those gears.

A nice breezy day!

Sunday, August 23, 2009

Sunday...

Walked 2 miles.

Bob rode bike 4 miles.

Yesterday he biked 10 miles!

Friday, August 21, 2009

Thursday...

I'm a day behind on my blogging.

Yesterday (Thursday) I took a 4 mile bike ride with Bob.

Too tired to walk today. Besides, I'm baking bread and doing laundry after a full day at work. I think that's enough time on my feet!

That is all. =0)

Tuesday and Wednesday...

Tuesday-2 mile walk after work. Took lots of pictures of nature.

Wednesday-1 mile walk because I'm going to work later. I also did:
Ecises
crunches (50)
airplanes (20)

I'm planning to walk 2 miles on the days I get off early; 1 mile on days when I work the evening shift and save the 3 miler for days off, maybe once a week.

Monday, August 17, 2009

2 miles...

I walked two miles on the trail. Bob biked about 4 miles. Had to fit in our exercise between rain storms.

Sunday, August 16, 2009

1 miler...

Walked one mile. Into Nevis and back. 7:45 p.m.

It was starting to get dark, so I didn't have time to walk farther.

E-cises

Ab crunches 50

Airplanes 25 reps

Push-ups 20

3 miler...

Started out to take a 2 mile walk, but decided to extend it to 3 miles.

Bob rode his bike down to the bridge.(4 mile round trip)

Nice breezy, humid morning.

I think my 3 mile walks will be akin to the runner's long run. Only once a week. They take too much out of me for the next several days!

A closer look at that old cemetery that I'm so fascinated by! This little roped off area is in one small corner of a lot that covers about an acre. Apparently, after the 1930's they purchased the land next to the lake where the "new" Catholic cemetery is, and this little cemetery was no longer used. But they still take care of it and the whole lot is mowed. It's surrounded by a chain link fence and woods grow thickly all around it. It's a pretty and peaceful place. I took this picture during my walk. That's why I put it here. =0)

Short walk...

I took a one mile walk down the trail. Still recovering from the last walk.

I thought exercise was supposed to energize us and suppress our appetites! With me it just seems to make me more tired and hungry!

Well, I'm not giving up entirely.

I also did E-cises, ab crunches (50) and airplanes (20 reps).

A hot walk...

Quite warm today...

Bob, Micah and I went for an excursion on the trail. Bob and I started out on bikes with Micah rollerblading. My bike had a flat at about the 1/2 mile mark, so I parked it behind a bush and walked the last 2-1/2 miles on the horse trail. Bob and Micah went down to the railroad bridge and then returned home, waving at me from the bike path as we met.

So, I had 1/2 mile of biking and 2-1/2 miles of walking.

Monday, August 10, 2009

3 mile walk...

Took a 3 mile walk-

1-1/2 miles on bike trail, then back on the horse trail.

Warm, sunny and humid.

Enjoyed picking some flowers and visiting an old cemetery along the way.

Next time I will remember to eat something to keep my blood sugar level up!

Indian pipes...

Took my usual 2 mile brisk walk, this time on the biking trail so I could walk faster. I tried to keep up a good pace with no lolly-gagging. The only time I stopped was when I saw a strange little plant and just had to have a look. It turned out to be a patch of Indian pipes, which I've only seen in my field guide!

They're also known as Ghost plant. They feed on rotting matter in the soil around spruce trees. This was the only patch of them I saw. Pretty cool!

Also did E-cises, ab crunches (60) and "airplanes" (2 reps-30 counts each)

Thursday, August 6, 2009

Fauns? No. But, I did see fawns...

Went for a brisk two-mile nature walk down the horse trail. Up and down; down and back. I took quite a few pictures. I'll post some of them here.

There was quite a variety of speeds on this walk. I had to stop and take pictures a LOT. Then my memory card was full, so I had to stand there and delete a few so I could take more.

At the half-mile mark there is a small private cemetary plot with a large white cross. Two fawns, which had been laying in the brush to the right of the trail, heard me coming and jumped up. They went bounding across the cemetery lawn and stopped to the right of the cross where they turned and watched me curiously. You probably can't see them in the photo, but I thought I'd try. (You can see them if you click on the photo to enlarge it.) On the return trip they were still there, browsing around the edges of the lawn. They raced away with their tall white tails waving an alarm when I lifted my camera to take a shot. (Hey, that must be where the expression to "high-tail it out of here" came from!)

It's a very pretty place to walk.

Time to get back to work!

I was borderline sick all week, but now I'm fine!

I did a two-mile nature walk. I walked briskly, but slowed to make notes on what I saw as far as flora and fauna. The first mile I walked on the horse trail, which is very green and hilly and passes through a mostly wooded area. The second mile was on the parallel asphalt biking trail. It started to sprinkle and continued for the last half-mile.

Brought home a small bouquet of wildflowers which I hope to use for drawing practice. (Do I feel another blog in the making?)

Nice to be outside!

Been under the weather...

Just a cold, but I usually make a note in my exercise log just so I'll know I wasn't being completely lazy! =0)

Muskie 5K Fun Run

Today I ran the Nevis Muskie Days 5K Fun Run. My time...40:09. Pretty awful, but at least I DID IT. (My best time is around 28 minutes, but heck, I haven't done any running this year!) I walked the first half mile or a little more, then jogged the rest of the way with walk breaks.

There was a record breaking turn-out of 83 people! I think last year there were
40, so that was great!

You know it's a small-town race when the numbers are written on 3X5 cards! The entry fee was $3 which purchased the button which entitled you to participate in a plethora of events.

(I've looked in the mirror. This is not what I look like. Unfortunately, it's what I look like in most photos. But it's more to show what the race looked like. So I'll swallow my pride.)

July 8

Did some hoeing and hand weeding in the garden this morning. Hey, that counts! I even tried hoeing left-handed for a while, but I think I forgot and switched back pretty quickly. Habit!

I also lugged the garden hose around and watered various animals which was a little exercise.

My plans to transplant some lilies from pots to the ground were thwarted by a small swarm of wasps, one of which delivered a good sting to my right temple. Ouch!! Time to buy some Raid!

Did my E-cises, ab crunches (56) and back leg lifts (30 each side).

Here's what E-cises look like if anyone's interested. These are the maintenance exercises:
